Why do background checks?Background checks have always been a part of NIA’s risk management program. The horrific events of September 11, 2001 have only emphasized the reasons for background checks and made their need even more important to all employers and organizations.
NIA’s risk management philosophy includes eliminating exposure that can be identified in advance. The greater majority of working people and volunteers are solid, honest citizens with nothing to hide yet it is for their protection as well as the employer or non-profit organization that background checks should be conducted.
